What Happened

Authorities are investigating a crash that killed one person at US 69 in Tyler, TX on July 9th, 2024. Police say the incident happened around 3:26 p.m. According to investigators, a Chevrolet Silverado allegedly failed to yield while exiting a private driveway. In the process, the vehicle entered into the path of an approaching Ford F-150, forcing the Ford to take evasive action. Reports say the Ford veered right, striking a nearby Nissan before it was struck by the Chevrolet. Officials say this caused the Ford to spin out of control, crashing into a nearby bus stop area and striking pedestrian there. The vehicle came to stop after ending in a nearby parking lot, striking an unoccupied vehicle. Reports say the pedestrian, identified as 43-year-old Sandra Abrego, was fatally injured. There were no other reported injuries and sources indicate a Failure to Yield Row charge was recommended and or issued against the operator of the Chevrolet.
