What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a driver at FM 676 in Edinburg, TX on December 25th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 2:28 a.m. A Nissan Sentra operated by 65-year-old Sylvia Martinez De Garza was headed eastbound on West Trenton Rd. A Nissan Titan was headed westbound. The Titan is said to have crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with the Sentra, causing fatal injuries to De Garza. A 54-year-old passenger and 19-year-old passenger were seriously injured. The driver the Titan, identified as Otis Barron Jr was charged with Intoxication Manslaughter, Accident Involving Personal Injury or Death and Intoxication Assault.
