What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that injured a teen at US 87 in Sterling County, TX on August 4th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 11 p.m. According to investigators, a Kia Sportage was headed northbound along with a Dodge Ram traveling behind the vehicle. Police allege a motorcycle was in an eastbound barrow ditch, also headed northbound, before exiting the ditch onto a private drive. From there, the vehicle is said to have entered into a northbound lane in an attempt to cross the highway and allegedly failed to yield in the process. The motorcycle was struck by the Kia as it attempted to avoid a collision, knocking the 15-year-old driver from the bike. Police say he was next struck by the Dodge, which came to a stop in a shoulder. The teen was seriously injured in the incident, according to officials. There were no other reported injuries.
