What Happened

Authorities have information on a crash that killed one person at Westheimer Rd and Briarhust Dr in Houston, TX on May 13th, 2024. Police are saying the incident happened around 7:25 p.m. According to investigators, a vehicle traveling eastbound on Westheimer, allegedly at a high rate of speed, is accused of veering from the roadway onto a nearby sidewalk. From there, reports say the vehicle struck two people waiting at a nearby bus shelter before crashing into a light pole. One of the individuals struck, identified as 33-year-old Udoka Akachukwu, was fatally injured, reports say. The other, a man in his 40's and also not publicly identified, was hospitalized with suspected serious injuries. Reports say the driver of the vehicle, an unidentified woman, is suspected to have been intoxicated at the time of the collision and was hospitalized. Additional information was not available.
