What Happened

State Police are investigating a crash that killed a woman at US 271 in Gilmer, TX on February 1st, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 5:53 p.m. A van operated by 53-year-old Brendan Durkin is said to have been headed northbound behind a pickup truck operated by 49-year-old Verna Harris. As the pickup truck slowed to make a left turn into a private driver, the van collided with the pickup truck. Harris was taken to an area hospital with injuries she later died from. Durkin was also hospitalized and said to be in stable condition. Additional information was not available.
