What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that injured a person at FM 973 in Travis County, TX on June 8th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 3:42 p.m. A GMC Yukon operated by 59-year-old Todd Smith reportedly failed to control its speed as traffic ahead came to a stop. In order to avoid a collision, the Yukon attempted to veer from the road and lost control, eventually re-entering traffic and colliding with a Nissan Kicks operated by 59-year-old Yvonne Mendoza. The Kicks was pushed into the path of a school bus and the two collided, causing the school bus to los control and strike an additional vehicle. Mendoza suffered serious injuries. Smith, the other two drivers and the children aboard the bus were all evaluated for possible injuries. Smith recovered a citation for Failure to Control Speed.
