What Happened

Virginia State Police are investigating a crash that killed two people at Route 3 in Westmoreland County, VA on July 23rd, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 5:55 p.m. A Chevrolet sedan operated by 68-year-old Wardell Carter reportedly was making a left turn onto Route 3 when it was struck by a westbound dump truck under unclear circumstances. Carter suffered fatal injuries at the scene. A passenger, 68-year-old Mozell Carter, was hospitalized with injuries that he later died from. The dump truck driver was not injured. Police say all parties involved were wearing seatbelts.
