What Happened

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office authorities are investigating a collision that killed three people at  I-94 in Jefferson County, WI on August 18th, 2021. Police say it happened around 3:56 a.m. It began when a cargo truck lost control and crashed into a guardrail. A second vehicle struck the first and a third vehicle stopped to help render aid to the drivers. The drivers of the three vehicles were all outside of their vehicles when a fourth vehicle collided with the drivers. They all suffered fatal injuries in the collision. They were later identified as Harold Ostrander, Jason Smeltzer and Thomas Meier. A passenger in one of the vehicles was injured but their condition was not released. Additional information was not available.
