Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed a woman and child at Long Island Expressway in Yaphank, NY on May 4th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 7:30 a.m. According to investigators, a minibus was turned left on the expressway service before it was struck by a Nissan Sentra. The operator of the Sentra, identified as 31-year-old Jacklyn Smoljan, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Smoljan's 1-year-old child was taken to an area hospital with injuries she later died from. Two occupants on the bus had non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
