What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that seriously injured at least one person at US 59 in Angelina County, TX on July 7th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 12:20 p.m. According to investigators, a GMC Sierra operated by 35-year-old Lucero Pena was headed southbound at the time. A tractor-trailer traveling southbound in an adjacent lane is allege to have performed an unsafe lane change, causing the GMC to swerve in an effort to avoid a collision. The action caused the vehicle to go into a side skid before it overturned into a nearby ditch. An 8-year-old child in the vehicle is believed to have been seriously injured while all other occupants, including Pena, had possible injuries that were not confirmed.
