What Happened

Authorities are investigating a crash that killed two people at I-40 in Franklin County, AR on May 5th, 2024. Police say the incident happened around 2:19 a.m. According to investigators, a tractor-trailer headed westbound on I-40 is alleged to have left the roadway for unconfirmed reasons. From there, authorities say the vehicle went into a center median before colliding with pylons located at a center overpass. The crash is said to have left 30-year-old passenger, David Jernigan Jr and 36-year-old driver, Loren Smallwood, fatally injured. Authorities did not have any additional information available.
