What Happened

State Police have information on a crash that killed a person at I-80 in Urbandale, IA on November 12th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 10 p.m. near 86th St. Police say a patrol unit was in a shoulder lane with active hazard lighting as officers assisted with diverting traffic following a crash. Sources say a semi-truck operated by 54-year-old Dmytro Prysich allegedly failed to slow down or change lanes, striking 45-year-old tow truck operator, Joshua James Villa. Villa was exiting his tow truck at the time of the collision, which left Villa with fatal injuries. Sources say Prysich was arrested on a vehicular homicide-while operating under the influence charge. Charges for leaving the scene of an accident and failure to change lanes were also recommended and/or issued, sources say. Additional information was not available.
