What Happened

State Police identified the person killed in a crash at Hwy 34 near Red Oak, IA on May 21st, 2023. Police say it happened around 7:58 p.m. and identified 68-year-old Miles Russell as the victim. According to investigators, a Ford F-150 operated by Russell had been headed eastbound on Hwy 34 at the time. They believe the truck crossed a center line before colliding with the side of a semi-truck and hitting a road sign. The vehicle came to rest in a nearby ditch, leaving Russell with injuries he was taken to an area hospital for treatment of. He did shortly after arrival. The driver of the semi-truck, who was not publicly identified, had injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. Additional information has not been made available.
