What Happened

State Police are investigating a collision that killed a person at US 52 in Surry County, NC on April 5th, 2022. They say the incident happened when a vehicle occupied by Jeff Vickers suffered a flat tire around 1:40 a.m. Vickers reportedly called for a tow truck and was standing atop the rollback truck bed as the tow truck operator and Vicker's wife were on the ground. An approaching car carrier reportedly then veered up the rollback truck bed and struck Vickers. Investigators say the tow truck was partially in the roadway at the time of the collision and Vickers suffered fatal injuries at a result. Vicker's wife and the tow truck operator were both reportedly able to move out of the way prior to the collision. Additional information was not immediately available.
