What Happened

Area authorities confirmed the death of a driver in a crash at State Hwy 110 in Smith County, TX on August 29th, 2022. Officials say the incident happened  around 9:38 a.m. Investigators believe a Honda Civic operated by 94-year-old Charles Calahan was attempting to turn onto Hwy 110 when it turned into the path of a Ford Explorer headed southbound. The Civic is said to have struck a Chevrolet Suburban while the Explorer collided with a northbound tractor-trailer while taking evasive action. Calahan suffered fatal injuries in the crash. 66-year-old Eddie Susan Jackson and 40-year-old Jennifer Reina Smith, the operators of the other passenger vehicles, suffered minor injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.
