What Happened

Authorities are investigating a crash that killed a person involved at State Hwy 44 in Alice, TX on February 17th, 2024. Police say the incident happened around 5:05 p.m. According to investigators, a Jeep Cherokee headed southbound is alleged to have failed to maintain its lane before traveling onto a sidewalk. There, the vehicle struck a crosswalk pole before running a traffic signal and colliding with the right side of an eastbound Infiniti QX30. Reports say a 32-year-old passenger in the Jeep, identified as Eric Rocha, suffered fatal injuries. The driver of the Infiniti was allegedly uninjured while the driver of the Jeep, who was not publicly identified, had serious injuries. Reports indicate the driver was charged with Intoxication Manslaughter. Additional information was not immediately available.
