What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed two people at US 287 near Childress, TX on August 25th, 2023.  Police say the incident happened around 1:10 p.m. According to investigators, a Toyota Tundra is said to have been attempting to cross southbound lanes to go north and may have failed to yield right of way. Authorities allege the truck pulled into the path of a southbound Dodge Ram, the vehicles colliding in the process. The driver of the Tundra, identified as 85-year-old Frances Woodard, died in the collision. A passenger in the truck identified as 84-year-old Mary Watts was taken to an area hospital with injuries she later died from. The operator of the Dodge was hospitalized with minor injuries, according to officials. Additional information was not available.
