What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a collision that injured a driver at State Hwy 71 and 8th St in Smithville, TX on September 8th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 5:05 a.m. A tractor-trailer operated by a 56-year-old Rosenberg man was attempting a left turn onto northeast 8th St, failing to yield while doing so. A Toyota Camry operated by 34-year-old Jeffrey Cockrell collided with the truck in the process, causing him serious injuries. The other driver was not injured and was cited for Failure to Yield Row.
