What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed one person at Mile 6 Rd in Hidalgo County, TX on April 22nd, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 2:35 a.m. Investigators believe a Dodge Avenger operated by 46-year-old Melisa Flores was headed eastbound on Mile 12 1/2 road, approaching the intersection with Mile 6 Rd. Police allege the vehicle may have run a stop sign at the intersection before colliding with a Mercury Mariner operated by a 24-year-old Weslaco man. Officers further allege the driver of the Mercury may have been intoxicated at the time of the collision. Flores had injuries believed to be minor while a passenger in the Dodge, identified as 51-year-old Larry Flores Jr, suffered fatal injuries in the collision. The Weslaco man also had suspected minor injuries and officers recommended a Driving While Intoxicated charge.
