What Happened

Houston Police are investigating a crash that killed two people at Bellfort Ave in Houston, TX on February 9th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. According to investigators, a SUV collided with a forklift-equipped vehicle in an industrial area. Police say the speed limit in the area was 35 mph and allege the SUV was traveling around 70 mph at the time of the crash. They also add there was another vehicle stopped ahead of the SUV as the forklift vehicle was crossing and believe the SUV may have been able to stop in time to avoid a crash. Two occupants of the SUV, identified as Maurice Rhine and Johnny Stanton, were killed while its driver and a third passenger were hospitalized. The driver of the SUV faces two counts of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault, acceding to authorities. Additional information was not available.
