What Happened

Police say the incident happened around 4:05 p.m. According to investigators, a Hyundai Elantra was turning left at a crossover before coming to stop at a yield sign. The vehicle is alleged to have failed to yield right of way while crossing the northbound lanes, colliding with a Ford Bronco. Reports indicate the crash left 19-year-old Hyundai passenger, Ruben Benavides, fatally injured. The driver of the Ford, identified as 42-year-old Jennifer Johnson-Cooley, had minor injuries, as did the other driver, identified as 23-year-old Jessica Pacini.
