What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed two people at I-10 in Brookshire, TX on February 11th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 7:35 a.m. Investigators say a commercial truck operated by a 28-year-old Houston man was headed eastbound on I-10 before veering to the right. The vehicle then collided with a parked Kia K-5 that police say was disabled in a lane of travel with active hazard lights. The impact caused a rear passenger to be ejected from the vehicle. Both that passenger, a 13-year-old girl, and the driver, 39-year-old Shasta La'Tesce Newsome, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. An additional passenger, a 16-year-old girl, was seriously injured. The truck driver had unknown injuries. Additional information was not immediately available.
