What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed six people at US Hwy 59 in George West, TX on December 29th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 6:20 p.m. According to investigators, a minivan was headed southbound before allegedly attempting to pass another vehicle in a no passing zone. The vehicle collided head-on with an SUV headed northbound before a sedan struck the rear of the SUV. The minivan operator, identified as 39=year-old Xochitl Lopez, was killed. A child passenger also died at the scene. The driver of the SUV, identified as 47-year-old Salvador Almeida Mendoza, was also killed as were two passengers, identified s 58-year-old Ilda Briones Nieves and 74-year-old Honoraria Lazo Navarro. One other person involved also died. Five others were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Additional information was not provided.
