What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed a driver at Hwy 27 in Polk County, GA on September 10th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 3:52 p.m. A Dodge Dakota operated by 84-year-old Harold Grogan Gary was stopped in a left turn lane at the Hwy 27 intersection with the Polk County Fairgrounds when it attempted a left turn. It then turned into the path of a tractor-trailer, which swerved to avoid the truck, striking the side of an approaching Dodge Ram and then head-on with the Dakota. The Dakota caught fire and the tractor-trailer overturned onto its side. Gary suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Additional information was not immediately available.
