What Happened

State Police have information on a crash that killed a man at Hiawassee, GA on July 7th, 2023. Police say 63-year-old Mark Savage was traveling home with his son-in-law Jeremey Dalton and grandsons from a water park. According to investigators, Savage's vehicle was struck head-on by a dump truck. Police say the dump truck was rounding a curve at the time of the crash and may have suffered a possible mechanical issue before the collision. Following the initial crash, the dump truck also collided with a Ford F-150. The crash left Savage with fatal injuries. His grandsons, ages 11 and 10, as well as Dalton, were hospitalized for treatment of undisclosed injuries. The driver of the Ford, identified as Newton Wilcox and the dump truck operator, identified as 68-year-old Charles Farmer, was also hospitalized. At this time, police do not have additional details available to share.
