What Happened

Illinois State Police are investigating a crash that killed two people at US Route 50 in Richland County, IL on July 14th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 6:50 a.m. According to investigators, a Chevrolet GMT pickup truck was struck in the rear by a semi-truck. The impact caused the pickup truck to be pushed into the rear of an International FL70 stop for road construction before catching fire. 22-year-old Justin Lynn and a passenger, 24-year-0ld Colten Stewart, were both killed in the crash. Police say 18-year-old Jonathan Wilson and 23-year-old passenger, Zane Farrar, were hospitalized with injuries considered to be minor in nature. Police issued and/or recommended a Failure to Reduce Speed charge against Wilson, according to officials. Additional information was not available.
