What Happened

Area authorities have details on a crash that killed a child at US 421 in Wanatah, IN on January 22nd, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 10:20 a.m. A commercial truck for a tree service company was reportedly reversing out of a driveway with a wood chipper. Investigators say a flagger for traffic stopped northbound and southbound traffic as this occurred. An approaching tractor-trailer is said to have collided with a Chrysler van that was stopped at the time. The impact caused all five occupants of the van, including 30-year-old driver, Christopher S Lawson, to become trapped. Once extricated, all were taken to area hospitals were a 10-year-old passenger was pronounced dead from his injuries. Additional information was not immediately available.
