What Happened

Kansas State Highway Patrol officials are investigating a collision that killed a woman at I-70 in Shawnee County, KS on December 5th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 3:22 p.m. and first began with a previous crash. A vehicle operated by 20-year-old Dakota Swader reportedly veered into a median for unknown reasons and overturned. A passer-by, 21-year-old Autumn Johnson, is said to have come upon the accident and parked her vehicle in a shoulder near the crash. As she attempted to cross the lanes of I-70, she was struck by a westbound semi-truck that is said to have been unable to avoid the collision. While Swader suffered minor injuries, Johnson suffered fatal injuries. Additonal information was not available.
