What Happened

Kansas Highway Patrol officials are investigating a crash that killed a child at I-35 in Wichita, KS on January 14th, 2022. Officials say the incident occurred around 8:25 a.m. A Dodge Durango operated by 28-year-old Tori Hornecker was traveling southbound on I-35 when it went right of the roadway into the shoulder. It then collided with the rear of a legally parked semi-truck, ejecting two passengers. One of the passengers was identified as 6-year-old Reagan Sampson, who died from her injuries at the scene. The other passenger, an 8-year-old child, as well as Hornecker, were both hospitalized with serious injuries. The semi-truck driver, a 39-year-old Oklahoma man, was not injured.
