What Happened

Kansas Highway Patrol officials are in the process of investigating a multi-vehicle crash that left two people dead. It happened at US Hwy 50 near Emporia, KS on April 5th, 2023. Investigators are reporting that around 6:10 p.m., an eastbound semi-truck operated by 46-year-old Travis Edwards veered into a westbound lane for reasons unknown at this time. It first hit an SUV operated by 67-year-old Timothy Hoekstra, causing the SUV to travel into eastbound traffic where it was struck by a semi-truck operated by 32-year-old Quintia Rowe. Police say Edwards's truck also truck a second SUV operated by 29-year-old Ryan Miller and a third SUV operated by 32-year-old Jacob Suenram. Both Miller and Suenram were killed in the crash. Hoekstra and his passenger Judith Hoekstra were both hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. A child in one of the vehicles was hospitalized in critical condition. Police did not say if Rowe or Edwards were injured. Additional details were not available.
