What Happened

State Police are investigating a crash that killed a person at Hwy 171 in DeSoto Parish, LA on January 25th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 4 p.m. According to investigators, a log truck headed southbound collided with a DOTD vehicle parked in a right lane. Authorities say the truck was being used as road work was being conducted in the area. After hitting the DOTD truck, the logging truck also struck a second DOTD dump truck vehicle. One employee for DOTD, 35-year-old Chris Gray, was standing behind the dump truck when it was struck. Another individual was in the bed of the first truck when it was struck and was ejected from the vehicle. Gray suffered fatal injuries while three others involved were hospitalized with serious injuries. At this time, authorities say impairment was not suspected as a possible cause for the crash.
