What Happened

Missouri State Highway Patrol officials are investigating a collision that killed a child at I-29 in Platte County, MO in October 23rd, 2024. Officials say the incident happened around 3 a.m. Police are saying a tractor-trailer operated by Samani Mahjouri is alleged to have collided with the rear of a passenger vehicle under unclear circumstances. Following the collision, reports say the impact caused the passenger vehicle to strike a second tractor-trailer before leaving the roadway into a wooded area. Reports say a child in the passenger vehicle was fatally injured while its operator, identified as 78-year-old Patsy Withrow, was hospitalized with serious injuries. Also injured was 44-year-old passenger, Terri Swartz, reports say. Mahjouri and the other driver involved allegedly suffered minor injuries. Additional information was not available.
