What Happened

New Mexico Police have identified the person killed in a crash at I-40 in Guadalupe County, NM on February 2nd, 2022. They say the incident happened around 9:38 a.m. and began when an eastbound semi-truck collided with the rear of a second semi-truck. This is said to have created a chain reaction collision involving 11 other big rigs and three passenger vehicles. One of the vehicles was a van with six occupants, including 35-year-old Florin Lordache, who died at the scene. The others in the van were hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. Police say there were no other injuries reported. The road conditions were believed to have contributed to the crash.
