What Happened

New Mexico State Police are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian at I-10 in Luna County, NM on July 2nd, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 9:24 p.m. 58-year-old Lydia Gonzales was reportedly crossing the interstate from south to north with another female pedestrian when, according to police, Gonzales allegedly stopped in the middle of the roadway for unknown reasons. She was then struck by a tractor-trailer and pronounced dead at the scene. The other pedestrian was not injured.
