What Happened

New Mexico State Police are investigating a crash involving multiple vehicles at I-40 in Cibola County, NM on October 8th, 2021. They say it happened around 5:09 p.m. A tractor-trailer operated by 28-year-old Jose Rubalcaba was headed eastbound I-40 as traffic ahead slowed in a construction zone. Investigators say that the truck collided with the rear of a Dodge Ram and pushed it forward where it crashed into the rear of an additional tractor-tractor trailer. The occupants of the Dodge, 77-year-old Thomas Brent Bowen and his passenger, 74-year-old Vicki Bowen, died at the scene. Rubalcaba and the other drivers and passengers involved were not injured. Rubalcaba was also cited for Careless Driving.
