What Happened

South Carolina Highway Patrol officials are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that killed one person at I-85 near Blacksburg, SC on January 3rd, 2022. Police say the incident happened as four vehicles were stopped in traffic. An approaching tractor headed northbound is said to have struck one of the stopped vehicles, a Toyota pickup truck, in the rear. It also struck a second and third tractor-trailer and debris from the collisions struck a Ford pickup truck. A front seat passenger in the pickup truck, 64-year-old James Arthur Fuelling, was killed. The driver was hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. The other drivers involved did not report having any injuries. The driver of the first tractor-trailer was reportedly issued a charge of driving too fast for conditions. Additional information was not available.
