What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed one person involved at State Hwy 349 in Martin County, TX on July 31st, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 6:24 a.m. According to investigators, a pickup headed southbound began to slow due a crash ahead. As it did so, police say it was rear ended by a second pickup truck, allegedly operated by 30-year-old Jessica Postlewait. The crash left a passenger in her vehicle, identified as 19-year-old Brolyn James Chavez, with serious injuries that later became fatal. Postlewait was hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. The other driver, identified as 30-year-old Christopher Barron Cardona and a passenger, 28-year-old Chris Andrew Gomez, were also hospitalized for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
