What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a collision at US Hwy 175 in Cherokee County, TX on August 9th, 2021. Police say the incident happened when an eastbound Dodge Durango operated by a 17-year-old male reportedly crossed into westbound traffic and crashed head-on into a Ford Fiesta operated by 43-year-old Angela Washington. A passenger in the Fiesta, 68-year-old Cheryl Smith, died at the scene. A Washington and a second passenger, 68-year-old Gloria Williams, were hospitalized with serious injuries. The 17-year-old was also hospitalized in stable condition.
