What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a collision that injured a driver at State Hwy 8 in Cass County, TX on August 27th, 2021. Police say it happened around 3:22 p.m. A tractor-trailer operated by a 40-year-old Marshall, TX man reportedly crossed from a southbound lane across a center divider into northbound lanes due to driver distraction. The driver told police he was attempting to retrieve a cigarette that had fallen onto the floor of the vehicle when it collided with a northbound Dodge Ram 3500 operated by 35-year-old Cory Eaves. The Dodge lost control in the collision and overturning multiple times, causing Eaves serious injuries. His passenger was evaluated for potential injuries while the Marshall man was not injured. Police charged him with Failure to Drive in Single Lane and Violation of Non CDL Restriction.
