What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed two people at US 385 in Ector County, TX on July 13th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 4 p.m. According to investigators, a Nissan Frontier operated by 43-year-old Gerad Sandate was headed westbound when it allegedly ran a red light before colliding with a Mitsubishi Outlander. One occupant of the Mitsubishi, identified as 31-year-old Cynthia Abigail Fernandez, was killed. Also killed was a 9-year-old child passenger. Two additional occupants, including a 7-month-old child and 30-year-old Carlos Ignacio Gallardo, were hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. Official say Sandate allegedly fled the scene but was later located and arrested on charges that include Intoxicated Manslaughter, Driving While Intoxicated and Accident Involving Death.
