What Happened

Jasper County Sheriff's Office authorities are investigating a crash that killed a driver at State Rd 10 in Wheatfield, IN on October 28th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 11:30 a.m. According to investigators, a pickup truck operated by 52-year-old Steven L. Henry was northbound on County Rd 350, approaching the SR 10 intersection. Officials allege the truck suffered a mechanical issue that may have prevented the vehicle from stopping. The vehicle collided with a semi-truck entering into the intersection, operated by 46-year-old David E Payne. Police say the truck struck a utility pole in the impact and Payne was pronounced dead at the scene. It was not stated if Henry was injured. Additional information was not available.
