What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a collision that injured one person involved at Padre Blvd in South Padre Island, TX on one 24th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 9:47 p.m. According to investigators, a Dodge Ram 1500, operated by a 38-year-old San Benito man, was headed southbound at the time. Investigators allege the vehicle came to a stop, as the driver and a passenger were involved in a verbal altercation. Police further allege the passenger exited the vehicle as the altercation continued. They say at some point, the vehicle struck the passengers left foot before leaving the scene. One person involved, identified as Dianne Zapata, suffered suspected serious injuries. It was not confirmed if Zapata was the injured passenger and police say there were no other reported injuries. The San Benito man was later located and authorities recommended and/or issued charges for DWI and Aggravated Assault.
