What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed woman at  US 87 in Howard County, TX on August 24th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 2:29 p.m. 74-year-old Elizabeth Klassen Bergen was traveling eastbound on FM 700 in an RV when, according to police, it failed to yield at an intersection. It reportedly entered into the path of a northbound tractor-trailer operated by a 48-year-old Lamesa man, causing a collision between the two. The RV then crashed into multiple street signs before coming to rest in a grass median. EMS officials extricated Bergen from the vehicle and she was flown to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead from her injuries. The Lamessa man was also hospitalized with serious injuries.
