What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a person at US 69 in Leonard, TX on July 16th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 9 p.m. According to investigators, a Ford Mustang operated by 69-year-old Ellen Gonzalez was headed eastbound on East Locust St when it reportedly entered onto US 69 and attempted a u-turn to head northbound. The vehicle was then struck by an approaching Kia Sorento operated by a 39-year-old Celeste man. Gonzalez suffered fatal injuries in the collision. A 12-year-old boy in the vehicle suffered minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
