What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed two people at US 59 in Panola County, TX on December 19th, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 9:54 a.m. A Dodge Ram 3500 operated by 79-year-old Jerry Galloway was towing a trailer and headed northbound while a Mazda CX-5 was headed westbound on an exit ramp from Loop US 59. The vehicle was exiting and attempting to turn left at the intersection when it was struck by the Dodge. The impact pushed the Mazda across southbound lanes into a bar ditch. Investigators were not able to tell which vehicle had the right of way but believe that one of the vehicles disregarded a stop and go signal. The occupants of the Mazda, 21-year-old Hunter Wilkes and 21-year-old Alexis Wilkes were killed in the crash. A child in the vehicle suffered minor injuries. Galloway suffered minor injuries.
