What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a child at  TX 16 and Cleo Ln in Atascosa County, TX on February 21st, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 7:30 a.m. According to investigators, a tractor-trailer operated by a 50-year-old San Antonio man was headed eastbound on Cleo Lane while a Kia Optima operated by 26-year-old Ibis Marie Palomino was headed southbound on TX 16 approaching the Cleo Lane intersection. Investigators say the tractor-trailer failed to yield to the Kia while attempting to take the northbound crossover and both vehicles collided. The impact caused fatal injuries to a 5-month-old infant in the Kia and serious injuries to an 11-year-old, 7-year-old and 5-year-old child. Palomino suffered minor injuries while the truck driver was not injured.
