What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a person at US 84 in Limestone County, TX on April 1st, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 5:50 p.m. Their investigation revealed a Toyota Tacoma operated by 87-year-old Robert Samuel Torres was headed eastbound when it went into a bar ditch the make a u-turn. An approaching tractor-trailer reportedly attempted to take evasive action to avoid the collision before striking the left front of the Toyota. The impact caused the the Toyota to spin before it was struck again and pushed into the bar ditch. A passenger in the truck, identified as 86-year-old Irene Pena Torres, suffered fatal injuries. Mr. Torres suffered serious injuries while the tractor-trailer driver, a 60-year-old Fairfield man, was not injured. Additional information was not immediately available.
