What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed one person involved at Loop 12 in Irving, TX on September 17th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 2:32 a.m. According to investigators, a Volkswagen Jetta was southbound on Loop 12 in a far right lane before it allegedly ran out of fuel. The vehicle was sat disabled in a right lane of traffic while two of its occupants left the vehicle to obtain fuel. Officials say a third occupant remained at the scene and was standing neat the vehicle as an approaching Toyota Tacoma collided with the individual near the vehicle and the vehicle, causing the vehicle to strike a Honda Pilot. Following the collision, police allege the driver of the Toyota and a passenger fled the scene on-foot. The pedestrian who was struck, identified as 29-year-old Jair Ramirez Rodriguez, was taken to an area hospital with injuries that he later died from. Additional information was not available.
