Area authorities are investigating a crash that injured three people at State Hwy 64 in Van Zandt County, TX on July 5th, 2024. Police say the incident happened around 2:53 a.m. According to investigators, a GMC Sierra headed westbound on Hwy 64 is alleged to have failed to control its speed before colliding wi the rear of a Chevrolet Silverado. The impact is said to have pushed the Silverado into an eastbound lane where it collided with a nearby Kia Carnival. Reports indicate an 84-year-old passenger in the Kia as well as two occupants in the Silverado, including 60-year-old driver, James Sherwood, were seriously injured. Two others had injuries considered non-life-threatening, reports indicate. Reports further indicate a Failure to Control Speed charge/citation was recommended and/or issued against the operator of the GMC.
