What Happened

Authorities have information on a collision that killed one person involved at Eastex Fwy in Houston, TX on July 22nd, 2024. Police say the incident happened around 10:23 p.m. According to investigators, a Ford Taurus is said to have been parked in a southbound lane near a second vehicle which was stalled. Police say Jarrod Avery and Autrell Baltrip were ahead of the Ford, working to move the stalled vehicle when a Dodge Ram headed southbound struck the stalled vehicle and Ford. The impact is said to have caused the Ford to strike Avery, Autrell and a third individual involved, Denard Watson. Police say both Baltrip and Watson were hospitalized with suspected non-life-threatening injuries while Avery was hospitalized with more serious injuries that later became fatally. Authorities allege the operator of the Dodge, identified as Johnny Luna, displayed signs of intoxication and had minor injuries. Additional information was not available.
